The Wrong Approach

I know a guy named Jeff, and Jeff always has car trouble. He came to me the other day and said “I can’t believe it happened AGAIN. That’s the third bad break I got at the car dealership. They sold me 3 cars in the last 3 years and all three had a bad engine!”

I felt bad but there’s something you need to know about Jeff, he does not take the best care of his cars. He never changes the brakes until he has a close call with a pedestrian, he never gets new tires until he blows one out on the highway, and he never changes his oil until he has at least a little smoke coming out from under the hood. All of these problems are avoided quite easily by just taking care of your car on a regular basis and making sure it is working the way that it should. These issues he has with his cars are also guaranteed to become problems when you do not take care of your car regularly. Still Jeff blames his cars for the problems and not the fact that he doesn’t take care of them.

If you knew someone like this you would probably assume they knew nothing about cars, didn’t care about their car, or lacked common sense. It’s a little harsh, but I would agree with you. The problem is that I know a lot of people like this; the only difference is that this is how they treat their bodies, not cars.

Now I don’t blame anyone for this approach toward health because it has been taught to us from an early age, but this is absolutely the wrong approach.  Think about it, there are millions of people who do absolutely nothing to improve their health on a regular basis, and then blame their “conditions” on their genes, family history, age, or even just bad luck. Blaming your body for your conditions when you have never taken care of it is very similar to blaming your car for breaking down when you don’t change the oil. These breakdowns of your body’s health are not things that could happen or might happen.  These are things that will happen to you when you don’t actively participate in keeping yourself healthy.  Health problems become inevitable at this point, it’s just a matter of when.

Chiropractic care is entirely focused on building your body up and helping it to deal with any challenge it may encounter. When your body gets healthier the problems, that at one point were inevitable, become avoidable. Now that you know your health isn’t something left up to chance you should do something about it. Try and eat better, exercise more, and get adjusted. Remember, health is a choice and I want you to make the right one.  Don’t wait until you have some smoke coming out from under the hood.
